Bronze Chair  2010

Lost wax cast bronze frame & plywood seat.

A reductive, elegant and organic design that uses the same ancient casting process of which a bronze sculpture traditionally would; this is a true statement piece.

The material characteristics and the nature of the laborious manufacturing technique allowed me to explore complex, three-dimensional components. The Bronze itself, as well as the upholstered leather version will patina through age, creating a sense of emotional durability. The feature, hollow winged back anatomically supports the primary muscles that aid posture to create a comfortable backrest.

The design was first completed in Jelutong, hand carved in components to undergo the lost wax process. The seat was drawn in CAD and then CNC mill manufactured to shape. Suede pig leather, secretly stitched covers a foam body on the upholstered version.
